Davy Liu's passion for his work was instilled in
him from the very beginning. His family immigrated
to the United States from Taiwan when he was just
thirteen. He found refuge during this transition in
his natural talent - art - as he struggled to adapt
to the new culture and language. At twenty, he graduated
from the Ringling School of Art and Design in Florida.
Liu was recruited by Disney Animation immediately
thereafter, and worked on such feature films as Beauty
and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion
King.
The peace and joy in Liu's heart is highly evident
in his artwork. He sees painting as the medium most
reflective of his inner core and expressive essence
of his artistic being. "I want to paint well and do
it over and over again," Liu explains. "I hope that
my work will have everlasting value rather than being
fashionable or quickly forgotten. Good art ensnares
you and evolves with you, becoming even more beautiful
as you grow more accustomed to it. Being here at this
time, I hope I can touch people's lives personally
and, or professionally."
Liu also has professional experience with Warner
Brothers Studios and Industrial Light and Magic. Liu
is producing an animated film, The
Giant Leaf, which tells the story of Noah's
Ark from the animals' point of view, revealing God's
salvation, not just for mankind but for all creation.
He enjoys traveling to China, where he leads tours,
gives workshops, and finds new subjects and inspiration
for his painting. Liu maintains a dynamic, public,
working studio and gallery in Laguna Beach, California
with his wife, Joan, their daughter, Sabrina and their
cat Daisy.
